Endorsements of awesome

I just opened up my Facebook feed this morning and there was a sweet surprise waiting for me:  I made it onto the Blue Roof Designs blog in "Elissa's picks for Vermont Open Studio Weekend!"

Who is Elissa Campbell?  Book-maker extraordinaire, she's a meticulous crafter with a great sense of style and even better, a wicked good sense of humor.  She makes books that you as the owner transform into complete works of art.  Here's what she has to say about me:

"Next I’d visit Kristin Richland of Sweet Enemy Art, #170. I really can’t describe Kristin’s work better than she does – “I do enjoy the spookier side of the art world as much as I do the cuter side, so consider yourself warned.” Her paintings of creatures and critters are the work of an active imagination, the one you wish you never lost when you grew up. I love love love her monsters. I want to hug them. And run screaming from them. It’s the best of both worlds."

So of course, please go visit Elissa!  She is studio number #215 in the 2014 GREEN Studio Tour Guide.  This link will help you find her:  http://blueroofdesigns.com/event/osw-spring2014/

Also check out her blog where she chronicles her annual Book-Improv interactive projects (here's a sample), her Worktable Wednesdays, upcoming teaching gigs and more.  So much more.  Go and explore!

I woulda' if I coulda'

Vay Cay Shun!
AndreZero and Science Girl welcomed us to their digs near the capitol for a wonderful visit, and for four days we enjoyed a lovely balance of touristy stuff and just chilling.
Here are a few pages from our National History Museum visit, with later additions.

THE BEST BIT, though, is what AndreZero overheard a little kid say to his dad while I was crouched drawing the pink fairy armadillo*:
"Dad, every single animal in this museum, she's drawing it!"
If I coulda, I woulda.  He must have seen me a few times, impressive memory what with the sea of people.  I thought I only got a piddling few!

Arkonbey already did a really nice post, re-capping some highlights of the trip.  I think I would benefit by sitting and thinking on such a list myself.  Well, I did at least sketch one event before I forgot about it:
That's one cool daddy.

*I would just like to say, sure it was easy drawing from taxidermy as opposed to something moving, but I'm raawther proud of how my sketch of the pink fairy armadillo turned out.  At most I think I had 60 seconds to do it in.

Off to the Studio Center!

Feather Study, originally uploaded by Sweet Enemy Art.
Vermont Art Week starts today!
I'm taking a short break before I load up the car with tons and tons of stuff and head to the VSC. It's gorgeous weather outside, though chilly.
The laptop will stay behind with Arkonbey but I'll bring my camera, so next week there will be a post (or two) of images documenting my time away away away!

a year of the hitching

So today marks the 'summer anniversary' of the Mister and me. One year of legal attachment, plus many more of the quasi-common-law variety before that. We shall celebrate tonight with a movie and probably a few cosmos.

Despite the slightly musty smell that has been pervading the house during our VT monsoon, things are great. We managed two mini-vacations, the most recent of which involved lots of swimming and even more eating. And the delightful rediscovery of how fabulous it feels to dig your feet into sand.

I mean really fabulous. It was foot therapy.

With the Mister's advice, I believe I'll be entering "Housemates" for the juried show at Art Hop. It'll be interesting to see if it gets in or not.
This weekend I'm hoping to try out the print shop at BCA with Miriam. We're going to test our pronto plates that we've been drawing on. With luck, some of them will work and we'll both have more stuff for sale at the Art Hop! Plus I'll have a few new little paintings that I started while Karen was here the weekend before (thanks Karen!)

See you all at the Art Hop: September 5th & 6th.
